Q1 of 2020: Work Samples, Pre-Pandemic

If you’re reading this blog close to when it is posted, your new normal includes wearing a mask whenever you leave the house, spending time with loved ones through screens, and a lingering thought that goes something like, “will things ever be the same?”

It is crazy to think that there was even a 2020 before any of this began. It feels like it has been present since the new year hit. Before social distancing and government shutdowns, I did get some new work completed. Also worth noting: I’ll be posting another blog soon about branded communication and messaging I helped create during the pandemic.

But, for now, here are some work samples from Q1 of 2020!

To: Football

After the passing of Kobe Bryant just a few days ago, I came across his Oscar award winning short film entitled “Dear Basketball” – which, you can watch here. It was so perfectly done, and it made me think about what I would write if I were to pen a letter to football (soccer). I just started writing, and I wanted to have it documented here. So, here goes…

[Inspired by Kobe Bryant]

The first time we met, I knew you were different. At just five years old, I knew you were so much different than anyone else I knew. It was love at first touch.

Throughout the years that followed that first encounter, you would end up teaching me so much about life and about myself. The traits that came from our time together run through my veins every day, and are at the core of who I am as a human being.

Humility, respect, discipline, perseverance, gratitude, and the value of hard work— you gave me all of this, and more.

When my body began to fail me and I knew it was time to hang up my boots, you lingered in my head. It seemed like you were playing games with me- I even resented you for a time. I wanted to write you off, cut you off- cold turkey. But, you wouldn’t let me go. Instead, you stayed and you waited so patiently for me.

The battle scars you honored me with became reminders of a life full-lived. They reminded me of a feeling that my life wasn’t complete without. I couldn’t be angry with you anymore. After all, most good things do end at some point. Don’t they?

Or, do they?

It is the infinitely unfinished business we have together that moves me forward and pushes me to stay with you. Although our relationship has evolved and changed, you will always be my first love.

Thank you for the gifts you so effortlessly gave, and thank you for not letting me go. I am eternally grateful for every moment we spend together.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you- forever.

Always yours: #14

Final Cuts from 2019: MADE Coffee, Number 9 Salon, & Creative Mornings

Given the time of year (ho, ho, ho) and how busy things have become, it’s a Christmas miracle that I’m able to publish one last blog for the year! I’ve picked some of my favorite pieces of content from Q3 and Q4 to wrap up what was my best year, professionally, since leaving corporate America.

I’m sincerely grateful to the brands and the people who continue to choose to collaborate with me/H2H Social. It has been a fun ride so far. I can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!

Let’s recap, shall we?

Q1 + Q2: Onward and Upward

It’s not officially summertime yet, but the Florida heat says otherwise. Before I go outside and do a rain dance, I wanted to update the Jolley Goods blog with some fresh content from Q1 and Q2 of 2019! If you make it all the way to the end of this post, you’ll also find news about this past season in coaching, an H2H Social update, and some photos from an event I was able to help out with in May for Pet Pal Animal Shelter!

Okay, you know the drill! Here are my favorite work samples from the past few months…

2018-2019 Soccer Season

I started with this squad in mid-2017, so this past year marked our second season together. The team (U15 when we started) had been formed from a few different groups of players, so I preached the importance of chemistry from the get-go.

Our first season together, the team came in second to last place in their division and didn’t make it through the first round of Commissioner’s Cup play (the annual, regional/state competition that we work all season for).

This year – through extra training sessions and a ton of team bonding – the tides changed drastically from the first season to this one. The team went nearly undefeated in their division (only losing two matches) and placed second in Commissioner’s Cup regional play before advancing to the state final four where they lost in the semi-finals.

It was awesome to work with such a special group of kids.

H2H Social Update

Since 2016, I’ve been dedicated to growing the H2H Social brand as a progressive marketing option for businesses. The goal was not to have the biggest client list, but to create a network of brands who can enjoy the benefits of an in-house social media specialist without the big agency pricepoint.

I’m happy to announce that in Q1 of 2019, I started partnering with video pro, Christina Rosetti. She has become an integral part of what H2H Social offers, and I am so excited about the future!

Check out what we’ve whipped up so far via the H2H Social Vimeo page. And, as always, if you need help with social media, send us an email: Hello@H2H.social

Pet Pal’s Puppy Love Event

Last, but certainly not least, I had the (super amazing) opportunity to volunteer for Pet Pal’s annual benefit called “Puppy Love.” As a “puppy pimper,” I had a sincerely difficult job to do (that’s sarcasm, by the way). Walking around with puppies and accepting donations for the shelter was seriously a privilege and I am hopeful I’ll get the chance to do it again next year!
